A huge robot blows fire! An ark appears on the top of a mountain! Contemporary artist, Kenji Yanobe has realized this spectacle, like a dream, on a huge scale through his numerous art projects. “The great adventure of Torayan” is his first picture book. In commemoration of this publication we will hold an Osaka exhibition following Sapporo and Tokyo, at the Art Court Gallery.
One night in the forest the hero, Torayan, picked up a small sun and went on a journey. Eventually with the help of many friends Torayan grew this small sun into the big sun. “The Great Adventure of Torayan” was inspired by a story Yanobe found in a nursery when he visited the ruins of Chernobyl, dressed in “Atom Suits” (an Astroboy costume) in 1997. The story was of a doll who found a picture of the sun. The work has taken him ten years to complete. Besides hand drawn pictures for every page, documentary photographs of the production, and small pieces of work, there will be a special installation of a new work using shadow and light called Phantasmagoria (the subtitle of the show). In addition there will be a live reading of the picture book, instilling Torayan and the small sun with new life! In this show you can enjoy the wonderful world of this picture book, which is more than just fantasy, and the charms of Torayan, the trick star of the century. Now let’s go on a journey of adventure full of hope and dreams with Torayan!

This exhibition was planned to open up our gallery space to young artists whose potential have yet to be discovered by offering them opportunities to present their works directly to people in the contemporary art industory today. We advertised for artists by sending a simple message of "Why don't you make an appeal to ACG?" In this year, over 120 young artists answered our ad. We evaluated their portfolios and narrowed down to two small groups of twelve 2D artists and thirteen 3D artists. Each group exhibits their work for 9 days. Visitors can also view the artists' portfolios at our gallery while the show is on. We'd like to carry this project in the coming year too.

Toru Kuranuki Exhibition: Crystal Island
July 27, 2007 - August 4, 2007
Through particular combinations of hemispheres of crystal, somehow the work emanates a mysterious aura. Could I be the only one who senses how different it is from the lackluster light produced by our increasingly digitized modern world?
The world of Toru Kuranuki, called “Homage to Kenji Miyazawa - Crystal Island”.
In the spaces between the hemispheres, here and there, rubies, sapphires and diamonds show their faces.
Looking at these pieces one by one, it comes to me that this mysterious aura could well be the aura of the earth itself.
And then we are guided gently toward memories of eternity.
