Midori Omori / Geng Li

20 years since our first meeting.
While I was studying abroad in 1976, I was stunned by the different usage of oil paint. The world was about to realize that the common understanding of oil painting - western style painting is to paint with oil on canvas - was fading. I was, however, sticking to the traditional style, even though more I followed the French style, more my painting seemed to have the Japanese feeling to it.
I met Mr. Geng Li who came to Japan not too long before while I was searching for a painting style for myself. I was amazed by Mr. Li who worked lively without having any concerns on different paining styles of East and West. There was an atmosphere like being in a vast land in China drifted from Mr. Li's large-scale painings.
It has been 20 years since our first meeting. We have been inspiring each other while supporting each other. This joint exhibition is nothing but our wish.

Aeneas Wilder: Empirical Association

Aeneas Wilder (1967- ) graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 1994 with M.F.A. in Sculpture. He has been producing works in Italy, Norway, Canada, and Holland. In Japan, starting in Iwate in 1998, he has been making sculpture on site in Kyoto, Tokyo, Aomori, and Nagoya. Wilder's work involves tons of small wooden blocks and he piles them up without using any means of adhesive or nails. His well-balanced work creates silence and an intense atomosphere in the exhibition area. The end of his creation occurs when the artist breaks this silence by kicking his sculpture. Once he kicks one end of his sculpture, the whole loses its balance and the entire construction would come down. This indicates that everything that has a shape will eventually go back to nil.
