Keiji Usami New Works

Wednesday, November 17, 2004 - Saturday, December 11, 2004

Keiji Usami was born in Osaka and grew up in Osaka and Wakayama, yet since he moved to Tokyo at age 18, he rarely has had solo exhibitions in Western Japan. This is the first exhibition in Osaka since 1992. Usami has focused on production in his studio in Echizen Kaigan in Fukui for the past several years. Since 2002, he has been producing large-scale works which were inspired by Rafaelo's "Athens." At present, the series is about half way to its completion; yet we'd decided to invite some of Usami's works to our gallery to offer to the public.

Aiko Tezuka “Outside of Modernism”

Friday, March 5, 2004 - Saturday, April 3, 2004

It is neither painting nor sculpture. Yet, it is not craft work either. However, she is definitely making artwork. People critique a style of painting, an origin of sculpture, and a tradition of craft. Her work is in its own region where it unties those existing structures. Viewers read the Tezuka's work as painting, feel its sculptural dimensions, and acknowledge the material used as elements of craft. Yet, she is not opposed to illusion, she is not trying to eliminate weight from her work, nor she is against the traditional craft. She is purely making a new style of art.
